For some reason I am just completely fascinated by herbs right now. Their simplicity, freshness and bright green color has me mesmerized. I found The New American Herbal by Stephen Orr in Barnes and Noble the other day and had to own it. Beautiful pictures and great content!
“From modern garden master Stephen Orr comes a new, definitive book on herbs to finally replace the dusty and outdated classics. Here are entries on hundreds of plants that are extraordinarily useful in cooking, homeopathy, and more; dozens of recipes and DIY projects; and beautifully styled photographs so you know just what you’re growing.” – Random House website.
How cute is this little guy? Love the color.
I found The Flower Recipe Book by Studio Choo and fell in LOVE. Studio Choo comes up with THE most original and unique flower arrangements! You have got to check out this book.
I might not have fresh flowers to attempt to recreate these Studio Choo flower recipes but I tried my best with silk flowers from Hobby Lobby. I think it turned out pretty great!
And of course it’s in a Melissa Kae Creative Pottery vase!
I just added several new items to my Etsy store.

I cannot wait to have more varieties of Dahlias this summer.
I fell in love with my dinner plate-sized Dahlias last year with their huge colorful blooms. I found this book on Amazon titled The Plant Lover’s Guide to Dahlias by Andy Vernon (published by Timber Press) a few weeks ago so of course I had to check it out. What a beautiful book! Vernon discusses everything from how to dig up and care for Dahlias to propagation, not to mention showcasing 200 varieties with BEAUTIFUL images. I highly recommend this book if you love Dahlias. I am certain that you will love it.
Here is a video about Andy Vernon talking about Dahlias. You can find Andy on Twitter .
This book is part of a series by Timer Press. Other books include Sedums, Asters, Tulips, Salvias, Snowdrops, Ferns and Epimediums. The one on Tulips might have to be my next purchase!
I was given this Amaryllis bulb as a Christmas gift and it’s just about to pop. It will bloom now and then once I plant it outside this spring it should bloom again. These are not hardy in Iowa so they must be dug up each fall. I’ve never had these before so I am interested to try them out!
